Carolina Cortella - Director
Carolina was born in Buenos Aires and is based in LA and is part of the Free The Bid roster as a Director.
She has a bachelor degree in Film Directing from Fundation Universidad del Cine and also studied performing arts for the love of acting and to improve her skill as a Director.
Carolina's films are an intimate portrait of our generation and the way we connect with the human experience while exploring different planes of realism. We can totally say that "Poetic Realism" is a genre she has been exploring until the moment present, it is an overall tone that often resembles nostalgia and bitterness. They are "poetic" because of a heightened aestheticism that sometimes draws attention to the representational aspects of the films.
Carolina has been recognized internationally including winning best comedy award at the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival and having her films “Deseo” and “The Traps” officially selected in international film festivals like Cartagena International Film Festival, Austin Cine las Americas International Film Festival, Berlin Lakino Film Festival, Toronto FilmDrunkFest and Cuenca International Film Festival.
We can see in her films “Deseo”, “The traps”, “Haze” and “Remain” how the characters struggle with personal relationships, always told through female characters. These films describe the challenge and the need to let go of the past and make room for what is yet to come. Cheer Legacy is a project that fits Carolina as a Director for her experience telling stories about transitions and the tension between the moment we live in and the fantasy we once had for it.
